Fall 2024 Tryouts and Info Session
Prospective swimmers, get excited because UMCS tryouts are coming up!!
First, students interested in the team should stop by our table at the Club Sports Expo on Tuesday, September 3rd from 4-7 pm on the Rec Turf. We'd love to meet you and answer any questions you have about our team, tryouts, and the upcoming season!!
Next, we encourage all prospective swimmers to attend our information session on Sunday, September 8th at 4:00 pm in Campus Center room 174-76. We are looking forward to meeting everyone, answering questions about the team, and explaining the ins and outs of the UMCS tryout process. The meeting will include information about our daily practices, team bonding activities, and meets as well as give attendees the chance to meet our E-Board.
Finally, tryouts will be held during our second week back on campus from Monday, September 9th - Thursday, September 12th in Boyden Gymnasium Pool. Each day of tryouts is different so pay close attention to the schedule below:
Days 1 & 2:
The first two days of tryouts will include an introduction to the E-Board, icebreakers, and a simulated practice. We have split this into two days due to high interest in the club. You should only attend one of these nights depending on the first letter of your last name. This will give us a better opportunity to get to know each of you during this process.
Monday 6:30-8:00 pm LAST NAMES A-L ONLY
Tuesday 8:15-10:00 pm LAST NAMES M-Z ONLY
Days 3 & 4:
The third and fourth days of tryouts are reserved for time trials. After checking in, swimmers will have 15 minutes to warm up before racing begins. Swimmers are expected to be at both nights of time trials.

Thursday 8:15-10:00 pm

Swimmer ability, attitude, and attendance on all days of tryouts will be considered by E-Board when making cuts. Swimmers can expect to hear back about making the team by Friday morning and are encouraged to attend team bonding at Puffers that evening. If you are unable to make it to any of the tryout days please reach out to us through our email or Instagram so we can plan accordingly. We are so excited to meet you, so bring your best energy!!
Important things to know before trying out:
E-Board members make deliberations based on the 3 A’s: Attendance, Attitude, and Ability. This maintains a broad spectrum of diverse individuals to continue the legacy of our amazing team.
Life happens, we get it! Don't be afraid to reach out through email with any questions or concerns, communication is KEY during this process.
Those who wish to attend must sign a waiver on our Campus Pulse to get in the water.
Boyden is a maze, so plan ahead and give yourself plenty of time to get there. Refer to the picture below for help finding the pool.
