Prospective swimmers, get excited because UMCS tryouts are coming up!!

ree

First, we encourage all prospective swimmers to attend our information session on Sunday, February 1st, at 1:00 p.m. in the Cape Cod Lounge, located in the Student Union. We are looking forward to meeting everyone, answering questions about the team, and explaining the ins and outs of the UMCS tryout process. The meeting will include information about our daily practices, team bonding activities, and meets as well as give attendees the chance to meet our Executive Board.

Next, tryouts will be held during our second week back on campus from Monday, February 2nd - Wednesday, February 4th, in Boyden Gymnasium Pool. Each day of tryouts is different, so pay close attention to the schedule below:

Days 1 & 2:

  • The first two days of tryouts will include an introduction to the E-Board, icebreakers, and a simulated practice. We have split this into two days due to high interest in the club. You should only attend one of these nights, depending on the first letter of your last name. This will give us a better opportunity to get to know each of you during this process.

Monday, February 2nd: 6:30-8:00 pm  LAST NAMES A-M ONLY

Tuesday, February 3rd: 8:15-10:00 pm LAST NAMES N-Z ONLY

Day 3:

  • The third day of tryouts is reserved for time trials for ALL prospective swimmers. After checking in, swimmers will have 15 minutes to warm up before racing begins.

  • Racing will consist of 3 individual events:

    • 100 yd Freestyle

    • 100 yd I.M.

    • 50 Choice Stroke

Specific events raced each night are subject to change.

Swimmer ability, attitude, and attendance on all days of tryouts will be considered by E-Board when making cuts. Swimmers can expect to hear back about making the team by Friday morning and are encouraged to attend team bonding that evening. If you are unable to make it to any of the tryout days, please reach out to us through our email or Instagram so we can plan accordingly. We are so excited to meet you, so bring your best energy!!

Important things to know before trying out:

  • E-Board members make deliberations based on the 3 A’s: Attendance, Attitude, and Ability. This maintains a broad spectrum of diverse individuals to continue the legacy of our amazing team.

  • Life happens, we get it! Don't be afraid to reach out through email with any questions or concerns. Communication is KEY during this process.

  • Those who wish to attend MUST sign a waiver on our Campus Pulse BEFORE getting in the water.

  • Boyden is a maze, so plan ahead and give yourself plenty of time to get there. Refer to the picture below for help finding the pool.
